It is not widely known that Marilyn Monroe was quite a fan of F. Matthias Alexander. A recently published photograph of Marilyn shows her reclining on her bed in her Studio apartment at the Beverly Carlton Hotel, with a copy of Alexander’s “Man’s Supreme Inheritance.”
Marilyn’s copy includes her notes and annotations as well as a couple of bookmarks placed on pages 95 and 157. This was Alexander’s first book out of a total of four, that he wrote about his discovery. on page 157, Alexander writes:
“…in both instances all depends on the point of view, we cannot be surprised that the mere promise to reform is usually futile, and we must furthermore realize that a changed point of view is the royal road to reformation.”
This collectors item was sold at Christies Auction in 1999, along with over 400 books, that offer a fascinating insight into the intellectual and creative interests of Marilyn Monroe.
